Scheme Overview: Atlantic is a reputable family-owned business based in Cardiff, established in 1988 by Peter Thomas, a highly successful entrepreneur in Wales. One of Atlantic’s notable projects is the construction of a 132-bedroom Premier Inn Hotel, a Whitbread Restaurant, and a Tesco Express on Langdon Road in Swansea.
This impressive six-storey building was meticulously designed and built by Total Group, a trusted construction partner of Atlantic. The construction process involved the use of over 900 vibro stone piled foundations, ensuring a solid and stable structure. The building’s foundation was further reinforced with a cast insitu reinforced concrete structure up to the first-floor level, followed by five storeys of timber frame construction. This combination of materials and techniques ensured both durability and aesthetic appeal.
To maintain a high standard of quality and efficiency, Total Group implemented a unique approach. They constructed a sample bedroom within the hotel before completing the roof, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of the finished product. This meticulous attention to detail ensured that the final result met and exceeded expectations. Upon completion in 2010, the Premier Inn Hotel on Langdon Road became a significant milestone in Wales’ hospitality industry.
It proudly held the distinction of being the first hotel in Wales constructed to a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ Standard. BREEAM, which stands for Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, is a leading sustainability assessment method for buildings. Achieving an ‘Excellent’ rating demonstrates Atlantic’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability. STARBUCKS DRIVE-THRU, NEWPORT ROAD, CARDIFF
The development was carried out in one phase consisting of a one storey steel frame building with a small seated restaurant and external car parking. Various external finishes were applied to the building including face brick plinth through colour render.

Situated on Newport Road arguably the busiest street in Cardiff, this project necessitated a focused and fully co-ordinated management plan for all health and safety and access issues throughout the course of the scheme, in order to safeguard members of the public and ensure an efficient build process.
