Project Overview

In 2017, our company entrusted Total Group with the responsibility of managing and delivering the design and construction of nine structural steel portal frame industrial units. This project was part of a larger mixed-use regeneration scheme in the Dursley area, located near the town centre.

The scope of the project was extensive, involving various aspects of construction and design. The external walls and roofing of the industrial units were constructed using a combination of brick and profile metal cladding systems. To enhance natural lighting within the units, roof lights were installed, along with external windows and doors. The units were also equipped with overhead sectional access doors and WC facilities to meet the needs of future occupants.

In addition to the construction of the industrial units themselves, the project also included various external works. A service yard was created to facilitate the smooth operation of the units, along with ample car parking and access facilities. Footpaths were constructed to ensure safe pedestrian movement, while external lighting was installed to enhance visibility during the darker hours. Drainage systems, both above and below ground, were implemented to efficiently manage water flow. The project also encompassed the creation of a visually appealing landscape surrounding the units, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal of the site.

At Total Group, we take pride in our ability to deliver projects of this nature with precision and attention to detail. Our experienced team of professionals worked closely with the client to ensure that all requirements were met, while adhering to strict timelines and budgets.

Throughout the project, our focus was on creating a functional and visually appealing space that would serve the needs of the local community and contribute to the regeneration of the area. The Total Group solution

Considerate Construction – keeping disruption to a minimum

During the mobilisation period, Total Group distributed detailed letters to local businesses, a local school, and nearby residential properties, informing them of the works that would be taking place. Regular updates were communicated by letter and face-to-face at key stages of the project programme, with disruption kept to a minimum through deliveries scheduled outside of peak times, the use of low-level radios, as well as dust/mud minimisation techniques.

Energy efficiency

Following site clearance and preparation, the development’s steel frame structure was erected in blocks. Steel frame works and steel stairs were prefabricated offsite with any wood used obtained from FSC-approved sources – helping to reduce project costs and protect the environment.

Each unit was constructed with a mono-pitch roof, which will help preserve the lifecycle of the development by protecting against adverse weather conditions.

Furthermore, Total Group received praise from the Considerate Constructors Scheme due to the company’s use of energy efficient welfare cabins, as well as its encouragement of vehicle sharing amongst operatives and subcontractors.

On-time and budget completion

Daily programme management and supply chain co-ordination ensured that this project was delivered on time and to the agreed budget.
